LONDON DESIGN FAIR 2016

EXHIBITION: TRUMAN BREWERY LONDON

For the London Design Fair 2016, the MSc Material Practice Programme, based at the University of Edinburgh, has been commissioned by Craft Scotland with designing a temporary canopy structure for the terrace space of the Truman Brewery London. The images show the final design iteration of a digitally fabricated reciprocal frame canopy. The design aims to facilitate long spans, using short lengths of plywood and a new simple joint detail. The frame, composed out of two repeating components, is lightweight and has been assembled on site within two days. The design was also the winner of the TTJ Timber Innovation Award 2017, in the category Innovative Timber University Research.
